To start with, the contemporary mega gym goer is not an ideal person for you to get high quality training information from. The key is to finding a trainer or mentor that understands your body and your goals. Follow their program and if you do not deviate from their plan then you will definitely see great results.
Unfortunately despite today’s popular ab infomercials promising a 6 second 6 pack with instantaneous results is leading a farce. So what does it take in order to eliminate the shroud covering our natural abdominal muscles? There are 3 things that need to be done.
Metabolically active exercises
The first thing you need to reveal your abs is to start a routine of the most metabolically active exercises possible. We have talked a little about this in our first article about the misconceptions that are out there where we have hopefully proved that doing high intensity interval training will create far superior fat burning results than your average 30-60 minutes of crap cardio.
Affecting the Right Muscles
The muscles that we strive to accentuate are called the abdominus. The problem with the 1,000 crunches routine is not that it fails to affect the rectus abdominus because it in fact does. These are simply the incorrect muscles to be focusing on.
There is a group of muscles that surround the abdomen much like a corset whose sole responsibility is to stabilize the spine and core during phases of movement. The reason why these muscles are so important is because they are essentially the ones the give your stomach that flat appearance. An individual may have a low level of body fat, yet still has not showed a define set of abdominals.
Find the Right Exercise
One of the best ways to target these deep core muscles and quickly tone our midsection is to use exercises that cause the core to fire as a stabilizer rather than a mover. One simple exercise that you can do is to hold a weight locked out overhead with one or two hands and while trying to keep your whole core tight go for a walk. You are instantly going to feel the stabilizers of the inner-unit work to support the overhead load and keep the spine protected.
There are of course even more effective exercises that will help you to fire these deep abdominal muscles and get you one step closer to your washboard stomach.
